Schools closed in Poonch due to inclement weather

Poonch, Aug 13, KNT: Authorities in Poonch district have ordered the closure of all government and private schools on Wednesday in view of inclement weather and continuous rainfall.

Officials said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff, following heavy downpours that have triggered flash floods in several areas of the district. The incessant rain has also led to a marked rise in the water level of local streams, nullahs, and other water bodies, raising concerns of possible overflow.

Reports from the ground indicate that flash floods have damaged some low-lying areas and disrupted normal movement in parts of the district. The administration has advised residents, particularly those living near riverbanks and hilly terrains, to remain vigilant and avoid venturing close to swollen water channels.

Emergency teams have been kept on alert, and officials are monitoring weather developments closely. [KNT]
