Union Education Secretary Visits DIET Beerwah to Review Training and Infrastructure

Budgam, Sept 29, KNT: Union Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar on Monday visited the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Beerwah in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, where he reviewed academic activities, teacher training programmes, and the overall infrastructural setup of the institution.

Accompanied by senior officials from the Education Department, Kumar interacted with staff members, trainees, and faculty, underscoring the critical role of teachers in shaping the future of students and the broader education system.

During his interaction, the Secretary stressed that quality education begins with empowering teachers through effective training and capacity-building measures. “If teachers are better trained and supported, learning outcomes among children will improve significantly. Teacher training institutions like DIET play a vital role in bridging that gap,” he told reporters.

Locals and education activists welcomed the high-level visit, calling it an encouraging step for Budgam’s education sector. “Such direct interactions by senior officials bring focus to issues faced at the grassroots level. We hope this visit translates into better facilities and stronger support for teachers,” said a local educationist in Beerwah.

DIET Beerwah has been functioning as a key centre for training and orientation of teachers in the district. However, like several other district institutes, it has faced challenges relating to resources and modern facilities. The Union Secretary’s visit, stakeholders said, signalled a renewed push to address these long-pending concerns.

Officials added that the ministry would soon review the recommendations made during the Beerwah visit and explore measures to integrate DIETs with national teacher training initiatives. [KNT]
