BRO Begins Snow Clearance on Gurez–Bandipora Road After Fresh Snowfall Cuts Off Valley

Bandipora, Oct 7, KNT: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Tuesday launched snow clearance operations on the 85-kilometre Gurez–Bandipora road after fresh snowfall blocked the vital route, disconnecting Gurez Valley from the rest of Kashmir.

An official said that Razdan Top, a key mountain pass along the road, received around four to five inches of fresh snow, forcing authorities to suspend vehicular movement. The sudden spell of snow also stranded several vehicles along the route, but timely intervention from a Border Security Force (BSF) unit stationed in the area ensured the safe evacuation of passengers and vehicles, preventing any casualties.

“The snow clearance operation has been taken up on a war footing. Our teams are on the ground with heavy machinery, and if the weather remains favourable, we expect to restore traffic movement shortly,” a BRO official said.

The Gurez–Bandipora road serves as the only surface link connecting the remote Gurez Valley with the rest of the Valley and often faces closure during early winter due to snowfall at Razdan Top. Officials said that all efforts are being made to reopen the route and maintain essential connectivity for locals.
