Deputy CM Urges Sajad Lone to Show Civility After Verbal Attack on Omar Abdullah
Srinagar, Oct 15, KNT: A day after People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of “political hypocrisy,” Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary on Wednesday appealed to Lone to maintain civility in political discourse.
Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust, Chowdhary said that while political disagreements are natural in a democracy, personal remarks and harsh rhetoric only diminish the dignity of public debate. “I have met his late, respectable father and had great regard for him. I also respect Sajad Lone, who is an educated person, but the way his father used to present his views and arguments, that style, that decency is missing in Sajad’s statements,” Chowdhary said.
He urged Lone to emulate his father’s legacy of thoughtful and measured expression. “I request Sajad Lone to show some civility. Criticism is part of politics, but it should be constructive and respectful,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.
Chowdhary’s comments came a day after Sajad Lone held a press conference in Srinagar where he accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of siding with the BJP and betraying allies during the Rajya Sabha seat negotiations. [KNT]
