Police Foil Impersonation Attempt; Man Held with Fake SSP Uniform

 

Anantnag, Oct 24, KNT: In a swift and alert operation, police in Kokernag have foiled an impersonation attempt after apprehending a man allegedly posing as a senior police officer. The accused was detained during a routine naka checking when he attempted to flee from the spot.

According to officials, a naka party from Police Station Kokernag intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Mohd Umer Mochi, son of Mohd Jamal Mochi, resident of Zalangam. Upon noticing the police, the suspect tried to escape but was tactfully overpowered and taken into custody.

During the search, police recovered a police uniform bearing the rank insignia of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from the bag he was carrying. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was allegedly using the uniform to impersonate a senior officer with the intent to deceive the public and possibly gain undue advantage.

Police have registered a case under FIR No. 118/2025 at Police Station Kokernag under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the impersonation and whether others were involved.

District Police Anantnag, while confirming the arrest, said stern action will be taken against individuals involved in such unlawful acts. “Impersonation of police or civil officers is a serious offence that undermines public trust. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station,” an official statement said. [KNT]
