Shopian Police Seek Bail Cancellation of 13 UAPA Accused for Violating Conditions

Shopian, Nov 10, KNT: Shopian Police in South Kashmir have filed 13 applications for bail cancellation in cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Officials said the action followed a detailed review of ongoing UAPA cases, during which it was found that several accused persons, who had earlier been granted bail by competent courts, were violating bail conditions and re-engaging in activities prejudicial to public order and security.

Police sources said these violations were meticulously documented during routine surveillance and monitoring of UAPA-linked individuals in the district. The findings revealed that some of the accused had resumed contact with elements associated with militant networks or were indirectly contributing to activities promoting unrest and radicalization.

Authorities said the move underscores Shopian Police’s zero-tolerance policy towards individuals attempting to revive or sustain militant networks under any pretext. “Legal relief cannot be misused to aid anti-national or unlawful activities,” a senior officer said, adding that strict legal action is being pursued to ensure accountability.
