The Poems of Hasan ibn Thabit — The Poet of the Prophet (PBUH)

Hasan ibn Thabit (RA), known as شاعر الرسول — the Poet of the Messenger — was a renowned companion of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He used eloquent verse to defend Islam, praise the Prophet, and inspire faith. The Prophet (PBUH) prayed: “O Allah, support him with the Holy Spirit (Jibreel) as long as he defends Your Prophet.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

1) The Most Beautiful Creation

English Translation:
My eyes have never seen anyone more beautiful than you,
And no woman has ever given birth to anyone more handsome than you.
You were created free from every flaw,
As though you were created just as you wished to be.

Explanation: A timeless praise of the Prophet’s perfect beauty and character, both outward and inward.

2) Defending the Prophet (PBUH)

English Translation:
My father, his father, and my own honor —
I offer them all as a shield for the honor of Muhammad.

Do you dare satirize Muhammad when you yourselves are from his people?
Surely Allah will turn your insult back upon you.

You have reviled Muhammad — and I have answered for him.
And with Allah, the reward for that shall remain.

Explanation: A bold poetic defense that turned satire back upon the mockers and became part of early Islamic literary heritage.

3) The Prophet and His Noble City (Madinah)

English Translation:
Bright upon him shines the Seal of Prophethood,
A mark from Allah — witnessed and clear to all.

Allah joined the Prophet’s name with His own,
When the muezzin calls aloud in the five prayers: “I bear witness.”

From His own name, Allah derived his — to honor him:
The Lord of the Throne is Mahmood, and this is Muhammad.

Explanation: A profound link between the names Mahmood and Muhammad, expressing the honor Allah bestowed upon His Messenger.

4) The Prophet’s Character and Mercy

English Translation:
His character was the Qur’an — he walked gently among men,
Never raising his voice, never harsh to anyone.

When people sat before him, he smiled softly,
As though light itself had spread from his face.

He gave preference to his neighbor and his guest from his own food,
And never withheld from the poor whatever he possessed.

Explanation: A portrait of the Prophet’s humility, generosity, and radiant kindness, echoing the testimony of Aisha (RA): “His character was the Qur’an.” (Sahih Muslim)
