Pulwama, Jan 7, KNT: A cold chain godown at Lassipora Industrial Estate in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district was gutted in a fire incident on Wednesday, resulting in the destruction of material stored by growers, officials said.
The fire broke out at a storage facility operated by Valley Fresh Cold Chain, where large quantities of growers’ material were stored. Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations, but faced severe difficulty due to dense smoke engulfing the godown.
Managing Director of Valley Fresh Cold Chain told reporters that the losses were substantial as the facility was holding material belonging to multiple growers. “Due to the shortage of space, all the goods of the growers were stored in the affected godown. Unfortunately, everything has been lost in the fire,” he told reporters.
Officials said the blaze caused extensive damage to the stored material, dealing a setback to growers who had relied on the cold storage facility to preserve their produce.
