Bear movement in Kupwara creates panic, wildlife secure area

Kupwara, Feb 1, KNT: A wild bear was sighted in the Kandi Khas area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday, triggering concern among inhabitants after the animal was seen perched in a tree close to a residential structure, officials said.

According to local reports, the bear has been roaming within the settlement since Saturday, prompting safety concerns. Police said a team from Kandi Police Post reached the area early in the day, established a security cordon, and restricted public movement as a precaution to avoid any human-wildlife conflict.

Officials said the Incharge Wildlife Handwara, Mohammad Siddiq, along with team members, arrived at the site to assess the situation. The wildlife team secured the area and restricted the movement of villagers.
