Geology & Mining Department Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 18: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mineral extraction, the Department of Geology and Mining Srinagar conducted a major enforcement operation in the Khanmoh area and seized one JCB machine, one LNT excavator, and two dumpers involved in unauthorized mineral extraction activities.

The operation was carried out with the active support of the District Administration Srinagar led by Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo, and Srinagar Police, including DySP Zohaib JKPS and SHO Pantha Chowk, Irshad Ahmad.

In a separate operation conducted in the Bemina area, the department also seized two tippers involved in illegal mineral transportation and extraction activities.

Officials said the action forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining and ensure strict implementation of mining regulations across the district.

Senior geologist/ District Mineral Officer (DMO) Srinagar, Mohsin Noor, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to continue the crackdown against violators.

“The drive will be continued and no one will be spared,” DMO Srinagar Mohsin Noor said.
