Budgam, Sept 24, KNT: In a major enforcement drive, officials from the Railway Department, Sales Tax Central Enforcement Wing, and the Pollution Control Board on Wednesday seized a large quantity of contraband and banned items during a surprise inspection at Budgam Railway Station.
According to officials, credible inputs suggested that parcel services were being misused for transporting prohibited goods. Acting on this information, a thorough checking of cargo was carried out at the railway station, leading to the recovery of multiple packages containing contraband and environmentally hazardous materials.
The confiscated goods not only violated taxation and trade regulations but also included items prohibited under environmental safety norms. “This joint action reflects our commitment to curbing illegal trade and safeguarding public safety. Strict legal action will follow against those involved in transporting these items through unauthorized means,” an official from the enforcement wing said.
The Pollution Control Board cautioned that the banned materials, if circulated in the market, could pose serious risks to both the environment and public health. Officials said the recovery underlined the growing challenge of smuggling activities being carried out under the guise of legitimate parcel transportation.
