Police Seize Three Tractors During Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Awantipora

Awantipora, Oct 15, CNS: In continuation of its intensified drive against illegal mining, the Awantipora Police have seized three tractors involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from riverbeds and other restricted areas within the police district.

Acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Station Awantipora, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), carried out surprise inspections in mining-prone areas and intercepted three tractors engaged in unlawful mineral transportation. The seized vehicles bore registration numbers JK13J-9175, JK13C-2186, and one identified by chassis number 36987.

Police identified the individuals involved as Irshad Ahmad, son of Ghulam Ahmad Panchoo, resident of Larkipora; Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din, resident of Larkipora; and Bilal Ahmad Shah, son of Nazir Ahmad Shah, resident of Bhoo.

A formal case under FIR No. 215/2025 has been registered at Police Station Awantipora under relevant sections of law. Further investigation is underway to identify additional links and possible facilitators of the illegal trade.

Police said the ongoing campaign against illegal mining will continue with greater intensity to safeguard natural resources and prevent environmental degradation. “Strict legal action will be taken against those found involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals,” an official said.
