Rs 2.15 crore low-quality currency recovered in Jammu, 5 arrested


Jammu, Jan 31, KNT: Bahu Fort Police in Jammu recovered low-quality Indian currency notes worth ₹2.15 crore during a naka checking operation near Kargil Colony in the Bathindi area and arrested five persons in connection with the case.
Police officials said that during the operation, a vehicle bearing registration number HR26CQ-8653 was intercepted, leading to the recovery of the counterfeit currency. Besides the fake notes, police also seized ₹5 lakh in cash and three cheque books from the possession of the accused.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nazir Ahmed of Barzulla Srinagar, Riyaz Ahmed of Sheikhhar Pulwama, Mohd Naimullah of Dwarka Delhi, Manzoor Ahmed of Nishat Srinagar, and Basit of Shopian.
Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 71/2023 has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort, and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and intended circulation of the seized currency.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO East Syed Zaheer Abbas Jafari and SP South Mamta Sharma, officials said. [KNT]
