Auto-Rickshaw Hit by Landslide Near Banihal on Jammu–Srinagar Highway, One Injured

Ramban, March 29, KNT: An auto-rickshaw was hit by a landslide near Banihal on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district on Sunday, leaving one person injured, police said.

The incident occurred when falling rocks from a hillside struck the vehicle while it was moving along the highway, a key arterial route connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.

The injured individual was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, officials said, adding that the condition of the victim is critical.

Police officials said the auto-rickshaw came directly under falling debris during the landslide, causing damage to the vehicle and injuries to the occupant.

“We received information about a vehicle being hit by falling rocks near Banihal. The injured person was evacuated and taken to hospital,” a police official said.

Traffic movement on the highway was temporarily affected following the incident, with authorities initiating clearance operations to remove debris from the road.

Commuters were advised to exercise caution while travelling along the stretch, which is known for frequent landslides, particularly in the Ramban sector.

Local authorities and road maintenance teams have been deployed to monitor the situation and ensure safe passage of vehicles. [KNT]
