A curious case of Sopore drug peddling family

An interesting case of a drug-peddling family has surfaced in North Kashmir’s Sopore town. The whole family is under police custody for their active involvement in drug peddling. One of the female members of the family was recently arrested by police with her associate and both were carrying contraband substances.

The family in question resides in Batapora area of Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Almost every family member has one or more than one FIRs registered in the police stations of Sopore town.

“The lady we arrested is the kingpin involved in the drug trade, pushing the youth towards the drugs. Her father is also a drug peddler, currently lodged in jail. Her brother is also in jail and is a drug peddler. Her mother is also a drug peddler against whom an FIR stands registered at a police station,” SP Sopore Shabir Nawab as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust informed the reporters while addressing a presser.

The girl who was arrested along with her male associate has been identified as Urooj daughter of Muzzafar Bhat of Batapora Sopre. Urooj and her family are actively involved in drug peddling and almost all members are currently in jail.

SP Sopore said that it was an interstate drug module that has been busted. The module was exposed after the arrest of two persons namely Tanveer Shah and Javaid Shah of Tarzoo Sopore along with 3512 tablets of Spasmoproxyvon plus tablets.

“The questioning of the duo led to the arrest of another drug peddler Amir Sadeeq Parra of Chandoosa Baramulla and subsequently, the identity of the two kingpins including a lady came to the fore during the investigation.

The lady kingpin Urooj Muzafar Bhat was arrested along with her male associate Ashraf Mir from Srinagar outskirts along with 1648 capsules.

“Five arrests have been made so far and more arrests are expected. The investigation is underway and efforts are on to get deeper and nab every peddler,” SP Sopore said. [KNT]
