Pattan Court Convicts Man in Cheque Bounce Case, Sentences Him to Six Months Imprisonment

Baramulla, Apr 2, KNT: A local court in Pattan has convicted a man in a cheque bounce case, sentencing him to six months of simple imprisonment and directing him to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the complainant within 30 days.

Judicial Magistrate/Sub-Judge Pattan, Altaf Ahmad Khan, issued a detailed 51-page judgment, convicting Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Sherpora Pattan, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

According to court records, Mir had issued a cheque to Mohammad Ramzan Wani of Khore Pattan in 2018. However, the cheque was dishonored by J&K Bank’s Sonim branch, prompting Wani to file a complaint before the Pattan court. After years of legal proceedings, the court found Mir guilty and sentenced him accordingly.

The judgment directs Mir to pay the compensation amount to the complainant within 30 days from the date of the ruling.
