Srinagar, June 1, KNT: Former Trade Union leader Mohammad Khurshid Aalam is likely to formally join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming days, with a major announcement expected on Monday.

Sources told KNT that Aalam is preparing to make his move official during a public event scheduled at Sher-i-Kashmir Park in Srinagar. The event is expected to be attended by senior PDP leaders and a large number of Aalam’s supporters.

“Aalam was approached by both National Conference and Congress, who tried to persuade him to join their ranks. But after weighing his options, he has decided in favour of PDP,” a close associate of Aalam told KNT.

Meanwhile, PDP’s Chief Spokesperson Nayeem Akhtar, when contacted, claimed he was not aware of any such development involving Mohammad Khurshid Aalam.

Aalam, a prominent face in trade union circles, was earlier associated with the National Conference before shifting away from active politics for a period. His re-entry into the political arena is expected to generate interest, especially among his traditional support base. [KNT]
