Water level in Jhelum rises, tributaries show receding trend

Srinagar, Sep 3, KNT: Even as the water level in river Jhelum continues to rise at Sangam, Pampore, Munshi Bagh, Srinagar and Asham, tributaries across South and Central Kashmir have begun to show signs of receding, bringing some relief to the people.

Officials monitoring the situation told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that  the Jhelum is maintaining an upward trend at several vital points, raising concern among people in low-lying areas. However, they confirmed that water levels in major tributaries including Vishow Nallah at Khudwani, Rambiyara Nallah at Watchi, Liddar Nallah at Batkoot and Sindh Nallah at Doderhama Ganderbal have started to decrease.

The easing levels in tributaries have been seen as a positive development, even as authorities continue to maintain heightened vigil over the main river. Flood-prone areas remain on alert as weather conditions are being closely tracked. [KNT]
