Bandipora, Aug 9, KNT: The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Bandipora has ordered the discontinuation of all volunteer workers, including doctors, from health institutions across the district. The directive, issued on August 9, had warned that strict action would be taken against heads of institutions found allowing volunteer workers to function in any section.
The order, circulated to Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Director Health Services Kashmir, and other officials, directed all BMOs and administrators not to engage volunteer workers in any capacity. It emphasized that the instructions must be followed “in letter and spirit” and warned that non-compliance would be viewed seriously.
However, questions about enforcement have already surfaced. Sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a couple of persons are still continuing their services at CHC Hajin despite the ban.

Locals alleged that such instances reflect favoritism and undermine the CMO’s directive.
When contacted over the phone regarding the matter, BMO Hajin, Dr Muhamamd Idress, said, “Actually, they had come on their own, and today I had the rooms locked.” Asked whether the individuals were related to any employees, he replied, “I don’t know. I will look into the matter and confirm tomorrow. I am in a meeting with the CMO Sahib today.”.
The development has sparked fresh debate about accountability and the selective application of official directives in the health sector. [KNT]
