Dismissing the reports that fruit growers suffered a loss this season, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang Kondbarao Pole Friday said that this year Kashmir witnessed a bumper apple crop. He said due to a bumper crop, the administration faced difficulties in regulating the traffic on Srinagar-Jammu Highway.
“Fruit-laden trucks in thousands crossed Srinagar-Jammu Highway. We later on diverted some of the trucks via Mughal Road to ensure smooth flow of traffic on Srinagar-Jammu Highway,” Police said.
While talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Langate area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara, Pole informed that apple production in Kashmir is usually between 17 to 18 lakh tons, however, this year it crossed 21 lakh metric tons, as a result, fruit growers reaped massive benefits. (KNT)
