Srinagar, Sep 4, KNT: Imtiyaz Khan, District President of the Indian National Congress in Srinagar, tendered his resignation today. He subsequently filed his nomination papers to contest the upcoming elections as an Independent candidate from the Eidgah Assembly Segment.
Khan’s decision comes on the heels of another Congress leader, Waseem Shala, General Secretary, resigning from the party and filing his nomination as an Independent candidate from the Khanyar Assembly Constituency.
Speaking to Kashmir News Trust, Khan attributed his decision to the urging of his supporters, stating, “People from my constituency know me well, and I hope they will cast their vote wisely.”
He also took a veiled dig at his opponents, saying, “People know that those candidates have been contesting elections who were absent for the past decade and did nothing for the people.”
In a related development, sources informed KNT that National Conference leader Irfan Shah is set to file his nomination papers tomorrow, intending to contest as an Independent candidate against JKPCC chief Tariq Karra from the Shalteng Constituency. [KNT]
