Elderly Man Seriously Injured in Cooking Gas Cylinder Blast in Budgam

Chadoora, July 22, KNT: A 65-year-old man sustained serious burn injuries after a cooking gas cylinder exploded at his residence in Badipora village of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday evening.
Officials identified the injured as Ghulam Hassan Magray, son of Ghulam Ahmad Magray, a resident of Badipora, Chadoora. The explosion occurred while domestic chores were underway, causing panic in the neighborhood.
Soon after the blast, family members and locals rushed the severely injured man to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Nagam. However, due to the extent of his injuries, doctors at SDH promptly referred him to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment.
The blast caused partial damage to the kitchen area of the house, though no other injuries were reported. Authorities said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the cylinder explosion and to determine whether safety norms were in place.

Incidents involving cooking gas cylinders have raised concerns in recent years across Kashmir, often due to faulty regulators, aging cylinders, or poor ventilation in household kitchens. The administration has repeatedly urged people to follow safety protocols and conduct regular checks on gas appliances.
