Hakeem Yaseen Serves Rs 10 Crore Legal Notice to Sandeep Mawa Over Defamatory Allegations

Budgam, Jul 4, KNT: Former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has issued a legal notice to Dr. Sandeep Mawa, accusing him of defamation and malicious character assassination through a widely circulated video posted on Facebook and other social media platforms.
The legal notice has been served through Advocate Arif Rashid Shah of the J&K High Court. It states that Dr. Mawa made “false, fabricated, and highly defamatory” allegations against Hakeem Yaseen, including claims that he once served as Deputy Chief of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen, was involved in political misconduct and corruption, and was linked to controversial figures from the past. The notice asserts that these allegations are not only baseless and devoid of any factual support but were also made with clear malice and premeditated intent to tarnish the public image of the senior leader.
Hakeem Yaseen, a respected political figure who has been elected multiple times to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly since 1977 and served in the state cabinet, maintains an unblemished public record. The notice emphasizes that he has never been booked or convicted in any criminal matter throughout his career and enjoys wide respect for his integrity and public service.
The defamatory video, according to the notice, also targets Yaseen’s family members, including his brother Hakeem Mohammad Ashraf, a prominent religious scholar, and his nephew Mudasir Ashraf, a government contractor. The content, the notice claims, has subjected the politician to public ridicule, severe reputational damage, and emotional distress.
The notice as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust calls upon Dr. Mawa to immediately stop publishing or sharing any further defamatory content, remove the existing video and all related material from social media within 48 hours, issue a public apology across the same platforms, and pay Rs 10 crore in compensation for the damage caused. Failing compliance, it warns, will compel Hakeem Yaseen to initiate both civil and criminal proceedings under the relevant provisions of law, including seeking damages and penal action. [KNT]
