LG Manoj Sinha Joins Ashura Procession in Srinagar, Pays Tribute to Imam Hussain (AS)

Srinagar, July 6, KNT: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday took part in the Ashura procession in Srinagar, walking shoulder to shoulder with mourners as they paid homage to the valiant sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS), the revered grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The solemn procession at Bota Kadal marked the 10th day of Muharram, a day of profound spiritual and historical significance for Muslims across the world, particularly the Shia community. Ashura commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his loyal companions during the Battle of Karbala.

LG Sinha was seen walking among the mourners, reflecting solidarity and respect for the occasion. He was joined by senior officials including Divisional Commissioner Kashmir V K Bidhuri, Inspector General of Police V K Birdi, SSP Srinagar, and other top-ranking officers from the civil and police administration.

Earlier this week, the administration allowed the 8th Muharram procession to take its traditional route from Guru Bazar to Dalgate—a gesture that was met with widespread appreciation by members of the Shia community. Religious leaders and community members welcomed the move, describing it as a step toward inclusivity and respect for religious sentiments.

To ensure smooth observance of Ashura, the administration made comprehensive arrangements, including deployment of security personnel, medical teams, and traffic management units. Senior officials remained present on the ground throughout the day to oversee the procession and facilitate a peaceful environment. [KNT]
