“We’ll Take Half World Down With Us”: Pak Army Chief Asim Munir’s Nuclear Threat

Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, reportedly warned at a closed black-tie dinner in Tampa that “We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we’ll take half the world down with us.” This is being described as the first known instance of such a nuclear threat delivered from U.S. soil against a third country

Munir also threatened that Pakistan would destroy any dam India builds on the Indus River, stating, “We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does so, phir 10 missile sey faarigh kar dengey [we will destroy it with 10 missiles]… Humein missilon ki kami nahin hai [we have no shortage of missiles].” He framed the Indus river as vital to Pakistan’s survival, noting that suspending the treaty could endanger around 250 million people

Munir was in Tampa to attend a farewell ceremony for the outgoing U.S. CENTCOM Commander General Michael Kurilla—marking his second U.S. visit in two months, after a high-profile meeting with former President Trump in June
