Srinagar, May 9, KNT: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held a high-level meeting to assess the security situation along the India-Pakistan border and at airports across the country amid the ongoing military standoff, sources said.
The review came shortly after the Border Security Force (BSF) announced it had foiled an infiltration attempt along the International Border in Jammu, killing seven militants and destroying a Pakistan Rangers post.
Shah was briefed on current deployments and additional security measures being implemented both at the border and key installations, including airports. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which safeguards airports and other critical infrastructure, has reportedly intensified checks and surveillance.
Present at the meeting were Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau chief Tapan Deka, and the Directors General of the BSF, CISF, and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
The meeting follows a sharp escalation in hostilities after Indian forces struck targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday. Pakistan’s retaliatory efforts to target Indian military positions were effectively countered by Indian armed forces on Thursday. (CNS)
