Alleged Murder: Women Lead Protest in Kangan, SSP Ganderbal Assures Time-Bound Investigation

 

Ganderbal, Sept 24, KNT: Tension gripped Kangan area of Ganderbal district on Wednesday after hundreds of locals, including a large number of women, staged a protest against the alleged murder of youth Ajaz Ahmed by his two friends.

Raising slogans and expressing grief, the protesters marched through the streets demanding a time-bound and fair investigation into the case. The protest was largely led by women, who blocked the main road for some time, mourning the loss of the 22-year-old.

The demonstrators demanded stern punishment to the accused, identified as Niyazul Haq and Moieen, both of whom have already been arrested by police. “We want justice for Ajaz Ahmed and a transparent probe that brings the truth before the people,” a group of protesting women told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Muhammad Khalil Poswal assured that the case would be investigated in a fair and time-bound manner. “Scientific and forensic methods will be used to ensure justice is delivered. There will be no delay in the process,” he assured.

To maintain order, security forces were deployed in strength across Kangan. Police officials said the situation remained under control and efforts were being made to pacify the protesters.

Ajaz Ahmed, a resident of Sultan Colony Kangan, was found dead in the Power Canal after being allegedly strangulated with a wire by his companions, sparking widespread outrage in the area. [KNT]
