‘Word on the Streets’: Omar Abdullah Recounts Events Leading to Doctor Module Exposure

Srinagar, Dec 6, KNT: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has shared what he described as a widely discussed account circulating in public discourse about how the doctor module in Kashmir came to light, while making it clear that he was not speaking from official security briefings.
During an interaction with a New Delhi-based media outlet, Omar Abdullah said he was not privy to sensitive security-related details but narrated what he had heard as a matter of common talk. According to him, the chain of events reportedly began when a young girl approached the police after her personal relationship with a boy ended. She informed the authorities that separatist posters which had surfaced in parts of Srinagar were allegedly put up by the same boy.
The Chief Minister said the police picked up the boy, who during questioning, reportedly told investigators that he was not acting alone and that others were involved as well. Those subsequently detained allegedly pointed towards a cleric, identified as Molvi Irfan, who in turn named a doctor, leading investigators to what later came to be referred to as the doctor module.
Omar Abdullah underlined that this version was not based on any official briefing received by him but was part of what he described as “word of mouth” and discussions being heard widely in public spaces. He stressed that since security matters fall outside his direct access, he could not independently verify the specifics of the account.
The doctor module, according to police, was later found to have links extending beyond the Valley, including a connection to the Delhi Red Fort blast case, making it a matter of serious national security concern.
Police have maintained that investigations into such networks are carried out through multiple layers of verification and intelligence inputs. [KNT]
