IGP Kashmir interacts with probationary DySPs, stresses integrity and professionalism

Srinagar, Jan 9, KNT: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V. K. Birdi on Friday held an interaction with 29 probationary Deputy Superintendents of Police of the 2024 batch who are undergoing practical training across various districts of the Kashmir Zone.

The programme was held at the Police Control Room Kashmir and was attended by senior officers, including the DIG Central Kashmir Range, SSP PCR Kashmir, Staff Officer to IGP Kashmir, and other senior functionaries of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

During the interaction, the IGP congratulated the probationers on joining the police service and underlined that integrity, fairness, impartiality, accountability, and discipline must remain the cornerstone of all police actions. He stressed that public trust in the police is built through ethical conduct and consistent adherence to the rule of law.

  1. K. Birdi elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of Deputy Superintendents of Police in operational duties, investigations, maintenance of law and order, and administrative supervision. He emphasized the need for sound decision making, leadership qualities, and continuous learning, particularly during the formative years of service.

Highlighting the importance of professional and outcome oriented investigations, the IGP stressed strict adherence to procedural requirements, especially while dealing with cases under special laws such as the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the NDPS Act. He said meticulous investigation and proper documentation are critical for ensuring justice and sustaining convictions.

The probationers were advised to develop strong investigative and operational skills, maintain a thorough understanding of criminal laws and procedures, and effectively use information technology in policing. The IGP also emphasized compliance with police rules, standing orders, and maintenance of records, including FIRs, case diaries, registers, and overall police station management.

Professional conduct, discipline, supervision of subordinates, proper uniform turnout, and ethical behaviour were repeatedly stressed. Officers were encouraged to cultivate humility, interpersonal skills, and moral values, and to regularly consult Bare Acts, manuals, and official instructions to enhance their professional competence.

The IGP also highlighted the importance of public engagement, advising officers to adopt a problem solving approach, balance compassion with firmness, and exercise responsibility and restraint while using social media platforms.

The programme concluded with the probationary officers reaffirming their commitment to serve with dedication, integrity, and responsibility, and to uphold the values and traditions of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. [KNT]
