Sopore Police Crack Down on Repeat Drug Offenders; Seven Detained under PIT NDPS Act


Sopore, April 30: In a major enforcement drive under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police have detained seven habitual drug offenders under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act), following the issuance of detention orders by the competent authority.
The individuals, identified as repeat offenders involved in multiple narcotics-related cases, include Mushtaq Ahmad Lone of Wagub Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Ganie of Dangerpora Sopore, Manzoor Ahmad Mochi of Harwan Bomai, Jahangeer Ahmad Tantray of Behrampora Rafiabad, Waseem Raja of Kranshivan Sopore, Bilal Ahmad Lone of Nadihal Rafiabad, and Adil Ahmad Lone of Nadihal Rafiabad.
Several of the detainees have been lodged in jails outside the district, including Udhampur, Bhadarwah, Kot Bhalwal Jammu, and Amphalla Jail Jammu, as part of measures to disrupt local drug networks.

Police officials stated that despite previous legal and preventive actions, the accused continued to engage in drug trafficking activities, posing a serious threat to public health and safety. Their detention under the PIT NDPS Act is aimed at preventing further involvement in illicit drug trade.
The crackdown is being seen as a significant step in dismantling entrenched narcotics networks in the region. Authorities have indicated that more such offenders have been identified and further कार्रवाई under preventive detention laws is underway.
