Family Blocks Highway in Ganderbal Demanding Justice After Muneer’s Body Recovered


Ganderbal, May 8, KNT: Family members and relatives of a man whose body was recovered from Nallah Sindh after nearly two weeks staged a protest in Wussan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Friday, blocking the National Highway and demanding justice.
The protesters assembled on the highway shortly after the body of Muneer Ahmad was recovered from Nallah Sindh, 13 days after he had reportedly gone missing.
Raising slogans and seeking a fair investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, the family members and relatives blocked traffic movement on the highway, leading to massive congestion and inconvenience to commuters.

Witnesses said hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road as traffic movement came to a halt during the protest.
Commuters, including passengers traveling towards Srinagar and other areas, faced long delays due to the blockade.
The protesters demanded a transparent investigation and alleged that several questions surrounding the incident still remained unanswered.
Following the protest, senior police officials reached the spot and held discussions with the family members and local residents.
Officials assured the protesters that a fair investigation would be conducted and all possible assistance would be provided to the bereaved family.
After assurances from the administration and police, the protesters later dispersed and traffic movement on the highway was gradually restored.
Police have initiated proceedings into the incident while further investigation is underway. [KNT]
