Srinagar, Feb 7, KNT: More than 1.27 lakh kilograms of polythene and single-use plastic have been seized across Jammu and Kashmir as part of sustained environmental enforcement measures between 2020 and November 2025, the government has informed.
The seizures were made during drives aimed at enforcing the ban on polythene and single-use plastic, which are considered major contributors to environmental degradation, drainage blockages and pollution of water bodies.
The government said enforcement teams carried out regular inspections, raids and awareness-linked actions to curb the manufacture, sale, storage and use of banned plastic items. The drive covered urban centres as well as rural areas across the Union Territory.
The government added the enforcement effort reflects its commitment to reducing plastic pollution and promoting environmentally sustainable alternatives, while warning that strict action will continue against violators. [KNT]
