Udhampur, June 18, KNT: In a stark reminder of rural neglect, residents of Sangyal village in Udhampur are being forced to fetch water using horses from distant sources as their taps run dry. A delayed water supply scheme, stalled by funding issues and local disputes, has left the village parched.

The Darsoo Gudhar Water Supply Scheme, meant to address the region’s water woes, remains incomplete despite initial groundwork. “Work is ongoing, but several contractors have stopped midway due to non-payment,” said the Executive Engineer of the Udhampur division.

He noted that the area has two potential water sources, and pipes have already been laid, but persistent local disputes are hampering further progress. “As soon as the disputes are resolved and contractors return to the site, we will complete the scheme,” the official assured.
