SDM Sopore Says Final Report Will Be Submitted Soon
Baramulla, May 1, KNT: The official inquiry into the killing of Baramulla youth Tahir Ahmed Sofi remains incomplete, months after the incident triggered outrage and demands for accountability.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sopore, Manzoor Ahmed Qadri, told Kashmir News Trust (KNT) that the investigation is still underway and witness testimonies are currently being documented. “We have recorded several statements, but the probe is not yet finalized. We are also coordinating with the Army, which is carrying out its own independent investigation into the matter,” Qadri said.
However, he declined to share any details regarding the findings or the current stage of the probe. “I cannot disclose where we currently stand or when exactly the report will be completed. But I can assure you that we will be submitting our report soon,” he added.
Tahir Ahmed Sofi’s death in Baramulla had sparked widespread protests and renewed concerns about accountability in cases involving civilian killings. The delay in finalizing the probe has only deepened the frustration of the victim’s family and civil society groups seeking justice. [KNT]
