The High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh has asked the government to clarify the nature of the accommodation provided to the protected persons and the reasons for doing so.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice N.Kotiswar Singh and judge Puneet Gupta asked the government to clarify its stand after a petitioner through his Counsel Advocate Sheikh Shakil Ahmed claimed that it is not necessary that a person who is entitled to security cover would also be entitled to Government accommodation as these are the two separate issues.

The court as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that it is not satisfied from the reply of the government on the issue and directed it to come clean in this regard.

Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed maintained that the security assessment and entitlement to Government accommodation are two different issues and cannot be intermingled.

He submitted that there is no requirement in law for the government to provide accommodation as well to a person who is being provided a security cover.

“The report which has been submitted before us does not show any reason why the persons have been given the official accommodation, though they may require security cover. We, therefore, would like to know as to the nature of the accommodation provided to these persons and the reasons for doing so by the next date,” the court said and listed the case for next hearing on 19 July next month.
