Habakadal Constituency Postmortem: PDP Secures Less Votes Than BJP

Srinagar, Oct 19, KNT: National Conference candidate Shamima Firdous secured a landslide victory in the recent Habbakadal assembly constituency election, garnering 12,437 votes.

Shamima Firdous won with a margin of 9,538 votes, representing a 64.68% vote share. Ashok Kumar Bhat of the BJP finished second with 2,899 votes, while independent candidate Nazir Ahmed Gilkar secured 1,475 votes.

Eight candidates as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust received fewer votes than the NOTA (None of the Above) option, which garnered 148 votes. PDP candidate Arif Irshad Laigroo secured only 602 votes, less than BJP’s Ashok Bhat.

Other contenders, including Apni Party’s candidate Jeelani Hamid Kumar, failed to secure even 100 votes. Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party’s Sanjay Saraf, who previously contested from the same constituency, received only 265 votes. Awami National Conference candidate Muzzafar Shah secured 276 votes.

Six candidates secured below 100 votes, with Faisal Manzoor of the National Panthers Party (Bhim) receiving the lowest 40 votes.
