Srinagar, Sep 23, KNT: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is once again showcasing the strength of “Nari Shakti” as its women daredevils embark on a high-altitude motorcycle expedition from Srinagar to Ladakh. The 32-member all-women team, known for its courage and determination, was flagged off from Lal Chowk, Srinagar, by Director General CRPF, G.P. Singh.
The expedition will cover approximately 1,400 kilometers across some of the most challenging and unpredictable terrains of the Himalayas, including Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable passes, and the scenic Pangong Lake. The riders are expected to return to Srinagar on October 1, 2025.
DIG North CRPF Srinagar Sudhir Kumar said the expedition reflects the indomitable spirit of women in uniform who continue to break barriers and challenge stereotypes. “The team will not only test their endurance in extreme weather and high-altitude conditions but will also send a message of empowerment and resilience,” he told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.
The CRPF women’s motorcycle team has an impressive history of daring performances. They were the highlight of the Republic Day parades in 2020 and 2024, enthralling the nation with their stunts and formations. The daredevils were also the main attraction during the National Unity Day parades in 2019 and 2023 at the national level.
Their feats include breathtaking displays at the “India Gate Talent” festival in Mumbai in 2019, which drew large crowds and appreciation. In 2023, the team undertook the “Yashaswini Vahan Abhiyan,” a massive motorcycle campaign from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, covering about 10,000 kilometres. The campaign was part of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative, spreading awareness on girl child education and empowerment across the length and breadth of India.
Officials noted that the Ladakh expedition carries symbolic as well as practical importance. Traversing high passes and rough terrains under severe climatic conditions is meant to inspire women across the country to pursue their dreams fearlessly. “This is not just an expedition; it is a message that women can conquer the toughest challenges and lead from the front,” said a senior officer.
The team has undergone rigorous training in endurance, high-altitude acclimatisation, and technical riding skills to prepare for the expedition. Safety measures have been put in place, with backup support vehicles accompanying the bikers.
Locals and tourists gathered at Lal Chowk to witness the flag-off ceremony, cheering the riders as they roared off on their motorcycles. Many hailed the expedition as a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir, with Srinagar once again serving as the starting point of a national-level initiative.
As the riders make their way through treacherous mountain roads, snow-bound passes, and unpredictable weather, their journey is expected to inspire thousands, particularly young women, to break barriers and aim higher in their lives.
The CRPF has assured that such initiatives will continue as part of its broader mission to promote women’s empowerment and highlight their role in nation-building. [KNT]
