Security Tightened Across Kashmir Ahead of New Year, IGP Reviews Arrangements


Srinagar, Dec 24, KNT: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, IPS, on Wednesday, chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room Kashmir to assess preparedness for the peaceful conduct of forthcoming events across the Valley.
The meeting was attended by all Deputy Inspectors General of Police of Kashmir Zone, DIG CRPF North and South Srinagar, DIG CID Kashmir, all district Senior Superintendents of Police of the Valley, SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Railways, and other senior officers.
At the outset, the IGP was briefed by officers on existing security arrangements and deployment plans. He directed that all preparations be completed well in advance and instructed officers to strengthen checkpoints, particularly during night hours, while maintaining heightened vigilance at vulnerable locations across Kashmir.
Emphasising the need to counter any threat to peace and security, IGP Birdi stressed strict surveillance against inimical elements and called for a high level of alertness along with enhanced area domination within respective jurisdictions.

With an anticipated increase in tourist footfall ahead of New Year celebrations, the IGP laid emphasis on multi-layered security arrangements at key tourist destinations. These include cable car terminals, forest tracks, crowded tourist spots, and major access routes. He underlined the importance of coordinated patrolling, real-time intelligence sharing, and continuous surveillance to ensure the safety of visitors.
Keeping in view the prevailing weather forecast, V.K. Birdi directed officers to ensure full operational readiness of personnel and equipment to handle any weather-related contingencies. He also reviewed security measures for highways, railway tracks, and railway stations across the Valley to ensure uninterrupted movement and public safety.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment by the officers to maintain heightened vigilance, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and effectively implement security protocols to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of all scheduled events in Kashmir. [KNT]
