J&K Police Will Hunt Down Drug Syndicates ‘With All Guns Blazing’, Says DGP

Srinagar, May 14, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday described ‘Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and narcotics trafficking’ as the biggest threats facing the region and said police would continue its crackdown against drug syndicates “with all guns blazing.”

Addressing a press conference, the DGP said Jammu and Kashmir Police had achieved top national rankings in anti-narcotics enforcement during 2025 under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

“J&K Police ranked No. 1 in the country in NDPS detentions and No. 3 nationwide in property attachments,” Prabhat said.

Highlighting the scale of the anti-drug campaign, the DGP said there had been a manifold increase in property attachments between 2023 and 2026, reflecting what he termed sustained and consistent action against narcotics networks.

He said police registered 724 NDPS-related cases and arrested 806 persons involved in drug trafficking activities.

Among those arrested were Gulzar Ahmad alias “Luv Gujar,” wanted in 28 cases and recently arrested by Jammu Police, along with another accused allegedly wanted in 17 separate cases.

The DGP said police seized nearly 660 kilograms of narcotics and around 90,000 units of psychotropic substances during the ongoing campaign.

Action was also taken against 24 habitual drug offenders under preventive laws, while 97 properties worth nearly Rs 41.8 crore were attached as part of the anti-narcotics drive.

Prabhat said Anantnag Police attached properties worth Rs 6.17 crore in a single case, describing it as the largest such attachment so far in Jammu and Kashmir.

He added that properties linked to narcotics accused had also been attached outside Jammu and Kashmir, including in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, and parts of Haryana.

In another case, Police attached property worth Rs 93 lakh in Belicharana area of Jammu, he said, adding that all actions were carried out after following due legal procedure.

The DGP said police also destroyed narcotics cultivation spread over 178 kanals of land involving poppy straw and cannabis cultivation.

As part of regulatory enforcement, authorities inspected 5,238 chemist and druggist shops and initiated action against 131 establishments for violations.

Police also disposed of 4,962 kilograms of narcotics and 6,493 psychotropic units during the period under review.

Prabhat said 162 driving licenses of alleged drug peddlers had been suspended, while registration certificates of 92 vehicles used in narcotics activities were either suspended or cancelled.

Additionally, recommendations were made for impounding 10 passports linked to narcotics accused.

Issuing a stern warning to Pakistan-based narcotics smuggler Shehzad Bhatti and his associates, the DGP said J&K Police would continue targeting cross-border drug networks attempting to push narcotics into the Union Territory.

He said narco trade was increasingly being used to finance destabilizing activities and police would intensify action against both local and cross-border syndicates. [KNT]
