Barrack blaze claims life of BSF man in north Kashmir, Inquiry ordered

Bandipora, Jan 12, KNT: A constable of the Border Security Force lost his life after a fire erupted inside a barrack at a BSF camp in the Madar area of Bandipora district late Sunday night, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as a native of Jalandhar district in Punjab, who was posted with the 62nd Battalion of the BSF. Officials said the fire broke out during night hours and quickly spread through the barrack, leaving little time for evacuation.

Due to the severity of the blaze, the victim could not be pulled out in time and was charred to death inside the structure, officials said. Other personnel stationed nearby were reported to be safe.

The exact cause of the fire has not been established so far. Officials said an internal probe has been launched to ascertain how the fire started and whether any lapses were involved. [KNT]
