

Srinagar, Feb 9, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir government has collected close to Rs 50 crore as application fees from job aspirants over the past two financial years, according to a written reply tabled in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
As per the official figures, the amount was collected through recruitment processes conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board.
The data shows that during the financial year 2023–24, the Public Service Commission collected Rs 7.39 crore as application fees, while the Services Selection Board collected Rs 7.09 crore. In 2024–25, the amount rose to Rs 10.50 crore for JKPSC and Rs 23.88 crore for JKSSB.
Cumulatively, the figures indicate that JKPSC collected Rs 17.90 crore over the two-year period, while JKSSB collected Rs 30.98 crore, taking the total collection to approximately Rs 48.88 crore.

The reply was furnished in response to a query raised by a legislator seeking details of revenue generated through recruitment application fees. The disclosure has sparked discussion amid ongoing concerns over unemployment and limited job opportunities in the Union Territory.
The data highlights the scale of participation in government recruitment processes, reflecting both the high demand for public sector jobs and the financial burden borne by unemployed aspirants.
The government, however, did not specify how the collected amount has been utilized or whether any fee rationalization measures are under consideration. [KNT]
