The Urs of Dastgeer Sahib (RA) was celebrated on Monday with devotion and reverence across Kashmir Valley while the main functions were held at Khanyar and Saraibala shrines in Kashmir capital Srinagar.
Thousands of devotees thronged the shrine of Sufi saint Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) amid chill and rain at Khanyar Srinagar to have a glimpse of the relic of the saint.
Emotional scenes were witnessed during the display of the relic as devotees were seen in tears, reciting verses from the holy Quran and seeking blessings from Allah.
The devotees including men, women and children visited the shrine throughout the day.
The clerics shed light on the life of Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani and urged people to follow his footsteps.
A function was also held at Sarai Bala in which thousands of devotees participated in night-long prayers.
The Wakf Board and administration had put all arrangements in place for devotees.
The Urs is being celebrated on 11th day of Rabi-ul-Sani every year according to the Islamic calendar. (KNT)
