New Delhi, Aug 19, KNT: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a man who had been absconding for over two decades after allegedly committing a murder in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1999.
Officials said the accused, Mohammad Dilshad, a native of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, on August 11, 2025, while travelling from Madinah via Jeddah using a passport obtained under a different identity.
The case relates to the murder of a person in Riyadh in October 1999, where Dilshad was working as a heavy motor mechanic cum security guard. Following the crime, he allegedly fled to India and remained untraceable for 26 years.

On the request of Saudi authorities, the CBI registered a local prosecution case in April 2022. Investigators later discovered that the accused had been travelling abroad, including to Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, under false identities. A Look Out Circular was first opened against him, but he managed to evade arrest until a second LOC, based on technical and human intelligence, led to his detention at Delhi airport.

Officials said Dilshad, aged around 52, was employed with a company in Madinah at the time of his arrest. He was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody on August 14, 2025.
The CBI has said that further investigation in the case is underway. [KNT]
