Out of Greed, Shopkeepers Selling Poison to Consumers, People Demand Stern Action

Jammu, Aug 24, KNT: In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that shopkeepers in Jammu are allegedly endangering public health by selling spoiled and expired food items in the market to make quick money. The malpractice, described by locals as “selling poison to consumers,” has triggered outrage and demands for strict action.
The Food Safety Department yesterday seized a huge consignment of decomposed cheese and expired edible oil in the Gangyal area of Jammu. Officials said that 21 quintals of spoiled and decomposed cheese along with 78 mustard containers of expired oil were recovered during the operation.
Acting on inputs, the department chased down a vehicle that was attempting to dump the expired food items illegally. The seizure revealed that the dumping was being carried out without any valid license or authorization, raising serious concerns about a well-organized racket operating in the region.
Locals expressed anger over the incident and said that unscrupulous traders, out of sheer greed, were putting lives at risk. They demanded immediate and exemplary punishment against those involved in selling substandard and expired food products.
Officials from the Food Safety Department confirmed that the matter is under investigation and assured that strict legal action will follow against the culprits. [KNT]
