Development Vital Amid Destabilisation Attempts: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, June 11, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that development alone isn’t enough while Pakistan continues to destabilise the region. Speaking at Aligarh Muslim University, he stressed the need for both effort and success to ensure sustained progress in J&K.

He praised the Chenab Rail Bridge—now the world’s tallest railway bridge—as a landmark project and urged continued focus on infrastructure development. “It connects Kashmir to the rest of the country and should remain a symbol of our engineering strength,” he said.

Commenting on the reservation bill, Abdullah noted that with no assembly in session, legislation cannot proceed. However, the Cabinet Sub-Committee’s report is ready and will be tabled in the cabinet soon.

He acknowledged the tourism setback following the Pahalgam militant attack on April 22 that killed 26 people, saying efforts are underway to restore normalcy.

Abdullah again pressed for the restoration of J&K’s statehood, expressing hope that PM Modi would eventually fulfill that demand.
