Rail Connectivity a Game Changer for J&K Tourism, Say Travel Agent

Srinagar, June 5, KNT: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to inaugurate a vital stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line on Friday, the Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK) has hailed the development as a transformative moment for Jammu and Kashmir’s travel and tourism sector.

The new railway segment is expected to significantly reduce travel time, enhance all-weather connectivity, and provide a safe, economical, and efficient mode of transport for locals and tourists alike. Once fully operational, the network will connect the Kashmir Valley directly with the rest of India by rail — a longstanding dream that is finally on the cusp of becoming reality.

President of TASK, Muhammad Ibrahim Siah, called the move “a landmark step for Jammu and Kashmir.”

“This railway network is more than infrastructure — it is a bridge of opportunity. With better accessibility, Kashmir will witness a major influx of tourists. We expect the rail line to become a lifeline for our economy, especially in the off-season months.”

Echoing similar optimism, General Secretary Waseem Gosani said:

“The opening of this route marks a new era for travel in the region. It will bring convenience to thousands of travellers, while also creating new avenues for local businesses. Better rail connectivity means more footfall, longer stays, and a much-needed economic stimulus.”

The Travel Agents Society believes the railway network will help decongest roads, lower transport costs, and make travel to Kashmir more attractive to domestic tourists, especially from tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

The inauguration is not just being seen as a major infrastructural milestone, but also as a significant boost for the region’s aspirations of becoming a year-round tourism hub. [KNT]
