Fuel Price Rise Will Trigger Chain Reaction on Essential Goods: Tarigami
Diesel Deregulation Deepens Crisis for Common Man
Govt Justifications Unreasonable and Unfair, Says MLA
Srinagar, June 1, KNT: CPI(M) State Secretary and Member of Legislative Assembly Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Saturday strongly criticized the Central Government’s latest hike in fuel prices, warning that the move will disproportionately impact the poor and middle-class citizens already reeling under the pressure of inflation.
In a sharply worded statement, Tarigami denounced the increase of 75 paise per litre in petrol and 50 paise per litre in diesel, saying such actions demonstrate the government’s growing disconnect from the hardships of the common man.
“The rise in fuel prices will inevitably have a cascading effect on the prices of essential commodities, making everyday life more difficult for ordinary people,” Tarigami stated. He added that the move further exposes the insensitivity of the government towards those struggling with the rising cost of living.
He also cautioned that the deregulation of diesel pricing has opened the door for frequent and unchecked hikes, pushing the burden squarely onto the shoulders of consumers. “The people are already suffering due to high food inflation and the continuous depreciation of the rupee. This fuel price hike will only worsen their economic condition,” he said.
Rejecting the Centre’s justification that losses incurred by oil companies and the need to reduce fiscal deficit necessitated the hike, Tarigami called such arguments “unreasonable and disconnected from ground realities.” He urged the government to reconsider its policies and prioritize the welfare of the people over corporate interests.
